Unveiling the Discourse: An Analysis of HPV Coverage on Twitter/X and its Implications for Public Perception
From January to May 2024, I participated a intriguing analysis on HPV vaccine discourse across Twitter/X, employing a sophisticated blend of data science tools including the ChatGPT API, R's tm package, and supervised machine learning models. This project meticulously mapped out conversations against the Health Belief Model components—susceptibility, severity, efficacy, benefits, and barriers—to understand public perception more deeply. Our findings illuminated significant gaps in the public's understanding of HPV vaccine efficacy, providing a crucial basis for shaping effective public health campaigns. These insights enabled us to propose specific, data-driven communication strategies to health authorities aimed at overcoming prevalent misconceptions and enhancing vaccine uptake.
